On December 6, Saints Feast Day, children would leave their shoes on the doorstep and Weinachtsmann would fill the shoes with toys and gifts.
Rubezahl, the watcher of the woods, would watch over the children who entered the woods, keeping them from getting lost, and keeping them safe from harm. All year long he would make presents. At Christmas time, he would pack the presents into his sack and deliver them.
